Venue Information

Kika Silva Pla Planetarium

Since 2006, the Kika Silva Pla Planetarium has been dedicated to enriching the learning environment of Santa Fe College students and our community. We employ the latest educationally innovative technology in a unique immersive-learning environment for SF and UF students, public and private school children, community groups, and the public of North Central Florida.
Located on the Northwest Campus of Santa Fe College, the Kika Silva Pla Planetarium was made possible by a generous donation of John Pla and his wife Amy Howard, on behalf of the Pla family, in recognition of his mother, Kika Silva Pla's, commitment to education and passion for social justice and civic engagement. Their generosity, along with additional support from a special federal appropriation arranged by Congressman Cliff Stearns, makes possible the only planetarium in North Central Florida.

Planetarium Gainesville

The Kika Silva Pla Planetarium seats 60 guests beneath a 34 ft Spitz projection dome, and is equipped with not one, but two, state of the art planetarium projectors! The first is a computer-controlled Goto Chronos optical-mechanical projector, which provides the most realistic night sky available. The second star projector is a Barco F70-4K6 running RSA Cosmos' SkyExplorer Space Simulation software. The Barco F70-4K6 uses a laser phosphor light source that transforms the 34 foot wide (1,800 square foot) dome into one giant, immersive computer screen that totally surrounds you with images, animations, and video for an experience you will never forget.
