The Immersive Pioneer
James Hood is the visionary creator behind the world’s most beloved immersive dome experiences: Mesmerica and Beautifica. Now, Astronomica, the final chapter of this incredible trilogy, is finally here.
Known for his groundbreaking multi-sensory projects that blend music and art, James Hood has an extensive musical résumé, which includes drumming for The Pretenders, acting as the creative force behind the visionary ambient act Moodswings, and a wide array of soundtrack projects.
With Astronomica, James invites us to embark on the final chapter of an audio-visual odyssey. While Mesmerica offered a reflection of calm and Beautifica celebrated life, Astronomica takes you on a cosmic journey designed to inspire hope, love, and awe.

Versant Power Astronomy Center and Jordan Planetarium
The Jordan Planetarium had its humble beginnings in 1954 as Maine’s first planetarium. In 2014 it was completely rebuilt, becoming the first digital fulldome facility in the state. The new facility added a multipurpose room, astronomy lab space and research observatory. Whether bringing the night sky to life and sharing the constellations or entertaining audiences with unique offerings such as Mesmerica, visitors find the Jordan Planetarium to be a comfortable and immersive environment that educates, inspires and transforms.
Versant Power Astronomy Center and Jordan Planetarium at the University of Maine is the largest and most technologically advanced in the state of Maine. It servers the general public, k-12 schools, university classes and private groups.
