James Hood

The Immersive Pioneer

James Hood is the visionary creator behind the world’s most beloved immersive dome experiences: Mesmerica and Beautifica. Now, Astronomica, the final chapter of this incredible trilogy, is finally here.

Known for his groundbreaking multi-sensory projects that blend music and art, James Hood has an extensive musical résumé, which includes drumming for The Pretenders, acting as the creative force behind the visionary ambient act Moodswings, and a wide array of soundtrack projects.

With Astronomica, James invites us to embark on the final chapter of an audio-visual odyssey. While Mesmerica offered a reflection of calm and Beautifica celebrated life, Astronomica takes you on a cosmic journey designed to inspire hope, love, and awe.

Venue Information

The Maynard F. Jordan Planetarium

The Jordan Planetarium had its humble beginnings in 1954 as Maine’s first planetarium. In 2014 it was completely rebuilt, becoming the first digital fulldome facility in the state.   The new facility added  a multipurpose room, astronomy lab space and research observatory.  Whether bringing the night sky to life and sharing the constellations or entertaining audiences with unique offerings such as Mesmerica, visitors find the Jordan Planetarium to be a comfortable and immersive environment that educates, inspires and transforms.

No strobing is used in the production, but there are some fast flickering light transitions, so caution is advised for those who suffer from seizures.

A very small number of people find immersive entertainment can create motion sickness.

No. Late entry is not permitted once the show has started.

This policy is for your safety and to protect the experience for all guests. The theater is dark, crowded, and filled with moving imagery, and entering after the show begins increases the risk of disorientation, falls, or injury.

Our shows are fully immersive, and late entries are disruptive for guests who are already seated and enjoying the experience.

Please allow extra time for traffic and parking, and plan to arrive during the scheduled check-in window.

Refer to your ticket for your check-in time as doors close promptly at showtime.

Our trusted ticketing partner ensures secure end-to-end payments are handled through a certified SSL channel.
This means your payment details are private and secured throughout the process.

We will only ever contact you if you've opted to receive communications from us, and we don't share your details with anyone outside of our ticketing platform, so you can rest assured your security is our priority.

You can cancel your ticket purchase up to 30 days before the showtime at absolutely no cost, or add on a flexible element at checkout to give you greater freedom to switch dates or cancel.

All tickets are 100% refundable up to 30 days before your event.
